Custom Dentures

Do you need a denture to replace missing teeth? Have you been disappointed with the fit and comfort of an existing denture? You can turn to Wisdom Dental in Coral Springs for help. Dr. Wisdom Akpaka and his associate, Dr. Mariel Petruk, can fit you for custom fabricated complete dentures when all of the teeth are missing and partial dentures when some natural teeth remain. They also offer implant retained dentures for the best and most long-lasting results. We will be happy to evaluate your oral health and discuss treatment options with you.

Complete Removable Dentures

A full set of natural-looking prosthetic teeth can be provided on a removable complete denture that has an acrylic base colored to look like gum tissue. This is less expensive than a denture supported on mini implants or a hybrid denture retained on as few as four implants. If you wear a removable complete denture on the upper arch, the acrylic base will cover the roof of your mouth. In the case of an upper or lower complete denture, a denture adhesive can be used to improve retention and biting force.

Hybrid Overdentures on Implants

New hybrid dentures are available that fix a specially fabricated complete overdenture on four or more dental implants. Although this type of treatment is more expensive, it provides for natural, stable function and a naturally beautiful smile when all teeth in an arch are missing. If you are interested in this option, Dr. Wisdom or Dr. Petruk will be happy to discuss this with you and work collaboratively with a partnering dental implant specialist to achieve this treatment.

Partial Removable Dentures

Today, there are multiple materials and many forms of partial removable dentures that attach to adjacent teeth with clasps. Partial dentures have a gum-colored portion that blends into the existing gum tissue and clasps designed in clear, tooth-colored or pink acrylic to show as little as possible.

Implant Retained Partial Dentures

If you have adequate bone tissue or can achieve it with a bone graft, you owe it to yourself to consider fixing your denture on one or more dental implants. Partial dentures can be easily fixed on one or more dental implants, making your life easier and your bite completely stable. Dr. Akpaka has expertise in dental implants and may be able to perform all necessary procedures for an implant retained partial denture in the comfort of his own office.

Getting Your Removable or Implant-Retained Denture

If you choose to have a removable denture, the process is simple. After teeth are lost or removed and the gum tissue has healed, we will make an impression and models of your mouth. A custom-made denture will be made by our partnering dental lab, and you will return for a second appointment. At this second appointment, the denture will be tried in your mouth and any needed adjustments can be made. You will receive full information about the care of your denture and oral health—and we will be only a phone call away if you have questions or concerns.

If you choose to have a fixed denture on dental implants, the process takes more time. After teeth are lost or removed, the bone tissue around the implant site may need enhancement and a period of healing prior to implant placement. After placement, your implant prosthetic will not be placed until the bone tissue has grown firmly around the implant. This period of osseointegration usually take two months. Our doctors can offer a temporary cosmetic solution during this period if the implant(s) are in the smile zone.
