Removable Dentures

If you have multiple missing teeth, a removable denture or implant supported denture will transform your life. Not only will you be able to smile with confidence, but fuller eating function will be restored. A removable denture will be initially less expensive than an implant supported denture, and your treatment can be accomplished faster. You will remove your complete denture(s) for cleaning and for sleeping.

If you have a removable denture now and are disappointed by its fit and function, perhaps, it needs to be refitted or replaced with a denture that conforms with the current shape of your periodontal bone and gum tissue. Over time, bone resorption will cause a removable denture to become loose and uncomfortable. When you observe this happening, it is time to have the denture relined or replaced, depending on the degree of change and the denture’s condition of wear and appearance.

Alternative Implant Supported Denture Treatment: An implant supported denture will involve the placement of dental implants by a specialist, followed by design and placement of your prosthetic restoration by Dr. Sachdev. Your denture will be fixed in place, and we will instruct you in home oral hygiene so you can maintain optimal health of the underlying periodontal tissue and preserve your implants and denture for the rest of your life. With implant treatment, there will be a phase of healing, and you might need bone enhancement procedures in order to receive implants, but the result will be full stability, significantly stronger chewing strength, and preservation of the periodontal bone that is stimulated by the implants. You also will not need to have a removable denture refitted or replaced as the periodontal tissue More details about implant supported dentures and why they are the gold standard of care today can be found on this website.

Complete Removable Dentures

If you have lost all teeth or are about to lose all teeth on an upper or lower arch, a complete removable denture will provide a full set of natural-looking prosthetic teeth. A removable complete denture has an acrylic base that is colored to look like gum tissue. In the case of a removable complete denture on the upper arch, the acrylic base will cover the roof of your mouth. In the case of an upper or lower complete denture, a denture adhesive can be used to improve retention and biting force.

Partial Removable Dentures

Today, there are multiple materials and many forms of partial removable dentures that attach to adjacent teeth with clasps. Partial dentures have a gum-colored portion that blends into the existing gum tissue and clasps designed in clear, tooth-colored or pink acrylic to show as little as possible. Dr. Sachev will fully inform you about the type of denture that is best for your specific oral circumstances. As always, his goal will be to provide you the highest quality of care as affordably as possible.

The Removable Denture Process

If you choose to have a removable denture, the process is simple. We will make an impression and models of your mouth. A custom-made denture will be made by our partnering dental lab, and you will return for a second appointment. At this second appointment, the denture will be tried in your mouth and any needed adjustments will be made. You will receive full information about the care of your denture and oral health. This includes when you you should return for a check up and professional cleaning. If you have any questions or concerns, we will be only a phone call away.

If you have only a few teeth left, our dentists will need to remove them before a complete denture is fitted. In that case, there will need to be a period of gum healing between the time of the extractions and when the impression is made. In some cases, if some of your teeth have broken off at the gum line and roots remain in the gums, an overdenture can be placed over the gum ridge without tooth roots being removed first. Because there is the possibility of future root decay and low denture stability, this treatment is usually recommended only for the very elderly or significantly medically compromised patient.
