Dental Bridges

If you are missing one or more teeth, dental bridges can be an effective and affordable way to restore your smile. Dr. Manu Sachdev and his associate, Dr. Bruce Miles, use the latest dental materials and methods. And, Dr. Sachdev has complete extensive postdoctoral education in crown and bridge procedures.

In addition to traditional bridges, which attach to adjacent teeth with dental crowns, Orange Grove Dental also offers implant-supported bridges. Before beginning treatment, Dr. Sachdev will provide a complete consultation and help you choose the right type of restoration for your health needs and budget. No matter which type of bridge you select, your restoration can have tremendous benefits for your dental function, overall oral health, and confidence in your smile.

The Importance of Dental Bridges

Whether you choose a traditional bridge or an implant-supported bridge, your restoration can have important benefits for your health and quality of life. The bridge will restore your ability to eat a full range of foods. In many cases, it can also improve your speech. By filling in the space in your smile, a bridge will keep your other teeth from shifting and restore your appearance so you have the confidence to smile.

Traditional Dental Bridges (Crown and Bridge Treatment)

Traditional dental bridges are made with two crowns. These crowns attach to healthy teeth on either side of the gap in your smile. They hold up one or more prosthetic teeth made of porcelain or porcelain fused to metal. Dr. Sachdev will prepare the teeth to be crowned by reshaping the teeth to make room for the crowns and to create a strong foundation for the restoration. We will make impressions of your teeth and send them to our partnering dental lab. There, your custom bridge will be made to match the natural shape, size and color of your teeth.

When the lab has finished your crown and bridge restoration, you will come in for a second visit. Dr. Sachdev will make sure the bridge looks natural and that it works harmoniously with your natural bite alignment. If you are completely satisfied with your restoration, it will be permanently attached with dental cement, and polished to a beautiful lifelike sparkle. If slight modifications need to be made for improved occlusion, Dr. Sachdev will also provide this service on the spot before you go home. We will instruct you in how to keep your crown and the gum tissue it abuts to clean. You will learn how to easily floss around your crown and bridge restoration to maintain optimal oral health.

Implant-Supported Dental Bridges

A bridge supported on a dental implant offers superior stability and the longest lasting results. An implant is a small titanium post placed inside your jawbone. Once your bone and gum tissues have healed around the implant, a custom-crafted bridge can be attached. An implant will enhance your oral health because the titanium post will stimulate bone tissue growth and halt the jaw bone resorption that occurs when a natural tooth is lost.

To determine if an implant-supported bridge is an appropriate option for you, Dr. Sachdev will consider your periodontal health, including how much bone volume you have for an implant. We will discuss your oral health goals and the relative costs of treatment. An implant-supported bridge will cost more than a traditional restoration so if you are carefully watching your budget, you may prefer traditional crown and bridge treatment.
