We Can Eliminate Dental Anxiety with Nitrous Oxide

The entire Mangrove Bay Dentistry team, in Tampa, FL, understands many patients are anxious when it comes to dental visits. We offer anti-anxiety comfort measures and nitrous oxide for patients who want to be relaxed when they undergo dental procedures. If you have been delaying regular checkups, dental cleanings and/or needed treatment, because you fear going to the dentist, we are a dental practice that understands and will take care of you.

We are focused on our patients as individuals. We will spend time with you and talk about your concerns. Please speak up and share with us if you have a gag reflex, have had difficult past dental experiences, are anxious about the condition of your mouth, or embarrassed about have how long it has been since your last dental visit. Many patients are afraid of receiving dental anesthetic, fear they will experience pain, feel vulnerable when they are in the dental chair, and worry about paying for dentistry. By sharing your concerns, we can immediately address them. We are not judgmental. We want to help.

There are some things we can do to ease anxiety and help you stay in control. If you have an “anxiety attack,” we know how to recognize the signs and help you.

Even though we pride ourselves in providing comfortable, painless dentistry, you also have the choice of having a medically sedated appointment. For patients with a strong gag reflex or a strong desire to be fully relaxed we can administer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) while you are in the dental chair.

Nitrous Oxide is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. Although you will completely relax, you will be conscious, able to hear, and able to respond to Dr. Tran and his dental assistant. If the procedure you are having requires a local anesthetic injection, you will not mind the injection. As soon as the mask is removed and you are breathing the normal air around you, the sedative effect will quickly disappear. You will be so refreshed and lucid within a few minutes that you will be able to drive yourself home.

If you feel that you would benefit from a stress-free experience in the dental office, ask about our nitrous oxide alternative. If you are pregnant, have COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) or some other pulmonary diseases, or are taking certain drugs, nitrous oxide may not be right for you. Before beginning treatment, we will take a complete medical history, including your use of both prescription and non-prescription medications. Dr. Toan Tran is an expert in nitrous oxide administration, and your safety is priority #1.
